My wife went to a pet store and saw this python:

Sorry for the crappy pic, the best we could do under the circumstances (five minutes to closing with employees breathing down our neck)

It was labelled a pastel, however, its keyhole pattern and the fact its blushing seemed... Un-pastelly made me wonder. She called me over and I checked its eyes. I'm no expert at identifying morphs, but my understanding is pastels have green eyes. This one's eyes seemed much darker and brown.

It was also several shades lighter than the other, crappy pastels sharing the enclosure with it.

My first instinct was Mystic, but that might just be wishful thinking. Is this within normal bounds for pastel variability, or is it something else? If so, what?

    I'd say that's a pastel

    Looks like a low-quality pastel.

Decent enough little pastel for a pet shop snake.

From what I can see, it's got really sweet flames on it's sides, and is fairly light all things considered. I used to believe that pastels all had green eyes, but a number of people here with much more experience than I said not every single pastel does.

More likely than not, being a pet store, they are asking much too high a price for it. Unless pastels are hard to come by in your area, you would almost certainly be better off buying from a breeder or at a reptile show.
