    Helix thermostat....need help..
    Hi need some help.I have my helix 1000 set at 90 in my mini fridge incubator and it just keeps getting hotter and hotter...this isn't the only time it has happened had it on a rack and it did the same thing....is it just broke ...

    Where is the probe? That could be a lot of your issue if the probe isn't secured to the heat tape. Also, you may want to consider getting a backup thermostat (Hydrofarms are like $30 on amazon) so in case your helix does this again, the back up thermostat will cut off the power. I hope your eggs are okay (if you had some in the incubator).

    That's good. I did the same thing when I made my incubator. Hopefully you can get it sorted out before you get actual eggs

    Some additional thoughts, is the helix plugged into a surge protector? Some can cause triacs to stay open and fail to shut down. Probes covered with aluminum tape can cause false readings as well. The other thing is if the probe wire runs along a power cord it can do odd things as well. Just thoughts it might be worth looking at. I too would suggest a failsafe unit as well.

    Is there a fan in your incubator? When I built my first incubator the fan I had in it circulating air was generating enough heat to raise the temperature of the incubator past what the thermostat was set it. I ended up having to run its power through a dimmer switch so I could reduce the heat it generated.
