REWARD OFFERED IN TURTLE BEATING
The Global Conservation Group of Watertown is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the beating of a snapping turtle. It happened at the Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan on June 10 between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. The female turtle, looking for a place to lay her eggs, was found lying in the sand in a bunker with holes in its shell. It was also struck in the right eye, a wound which appeared to have been from a golf club. The turtle will have surgery today and has about a 40-60% chance of survival. Anyone with information about this case should call the DNR hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367. Callers can remain anonymous.

I agree!! That's just plain wrong!!!!!!

I hope that when they find this person, they do the same thing to him with a golf club. For the turtles sake.

Golf used to be known as "The Gentleman's Game"....

If there is a less ecologically sound use of land than a golf course, I don't know what it is. You basically have a large area monoculture where tons of chemicals are used every year to keep it looking like indoor/outdoor carpeting so that a bunch of old guys can dress funny and pretend they're exercising by driving around on the grass with little electic clown cars while whacking at a little ball with a stick.

And people think keeping reptiles is weird. :rolleye2:

I keep thinking about this, the thing gets me is it was an adult, doing this is never right but for a grown person to be so heartless a d hateful, to a creature that is harmless.....I can't post the thoughts that are in my head.....:mad:

It deeply saddens me to report that the female snapper who gained national notoriety after being assaulted on a gold course has died.

I spoke with the club manager today and they've informed me that the ledger keeping track of who was playing that day has been turned over to authorities. I requested a copy but was denied. Tomorrow we'll call over to Wisc. DNR to make sure they are doing everything possible to investigate this abuse.
