Rat bit snake

The snake wrapped around the rat in a way that i couldnt see neither of there heads. By the time i realized the rat was biting my snake (10 to 15 seconds) the damage was done. It doesnt look too bad. What should I put on the bite?

Did the rat draw blood?

No. It just looks like he ripped the skin but i didnt see blood.

Just dab some betadine and it will heal with a few sheds.

Nothing against you live feeding but this is a reason many many people go to F/T. If you don't want to do F/T then what you do is you take the rat by the tail and take a really thick wrench or channel locks as I use and you nail it in the head. This kills the rat so that way you don't have that problem in the future.

I fed only live and don't have a problem with it.
Yes once in a blue moon someone will get a nip or scratch but that is up to us to keep an eye on them.
F/T is more of a pain in the hind end to me and I don't see a benefit to it.
I do know for a fact that they don't get a rat that was heated with a blow dryer in the wild, much less getting one every week.;)

True, I just worry that that "once in a blue moon" could involve an eye (Could happen with OP's case of not being able to see either head). They don't get clean, climate controlled cages in the wild either ;)

Thats a great way to have a perfectly good rad endup in the trash can if its not eaten. Or if you dont kill it and just stun it you will have a really pissed off scared rat that wen it wakes up in you snakes cage could do some damage. I feed live, only one bite, one shed later you would never knew it happened. Not worried about it one bit. Except with my bredli... she swallows them live... might have to swith her when shes big enough for prey with open eyes.. pretty much now. lol

The odds from my own sample of live feeding is almost negligible. Over 20k live feedings, with no eye injuries.

I do feed live but I also keep a close eye on the feeding untill the rat is caught and killed by the snake.
