Yay Burmese!!!
So I've really been wanting to get a Burmese before they all disappear, and I just got a youngster from a guy on craigslist. The guy said he didn't have time for her, and I can tell since she is borderline feral, I've been trying to handle her everyday and she's already calmed down quit a bit. Previous owner said he got her in January and she was just a little thing, so I'm not sure if she's a '12 or '13 baby. She's already 5 feet eating med rats. Prev owner also said he was feeding her two or three time a week!!! I threw a fit internally, but just smiled as I couldn't get her away from him fast enough... Anyways glad I got her!!!http://i40.tinypic.com/dwf9lt.jpg

Before they all disappear...?
She's very pretty though (though overweight IMO), and I wanna guess a '12 baby.

Well with the new law preventing interstate sales, most if not all breeders aren't breeding Burmese anymore... I was talking with Brian Barczyk from snakebytestv when he came out here and he said that most likely they'll all be gone (from the country) in 20 years.

Congrats! get ready for a giant. Yeah wow she was overfed. Very fat! Pretty girl though.

That's not true, bryan is far far far off on that estimate. More small breeders are rising up in the states to claim territory of intrastate sales to corner their area as their markets. There will not be nearly as many large scale breeders, but Burmese Breeding is far from gone :-) And yes beautiful ablino, but slightly over weight! Would def crank back her feeding to 1 med-large rat every 5-10 days with a week off every so often.

Even if people are local breeding, the gene pool will only self sustain for so long...

I gotta agree with reptileexperts, you're not going to see any large breeders producing hundreds of them a year anymore but you will see lots of small hobbyist breeders producing dozens. And who knows? With more selective breeding instead of mass production, you just might see the quality level go up.

The only thing I've heard him say about it is that there will be less big breeders as they can't ship out of state and working with morphs will be limited. There will be less, but they won't be gone.

Yay Burmese!!!
I'm so glad someone brought this up. Beautiful Burm btw. I've been watching via classifieds and other online resources and it certainly seems that it's becoming harder and harder to find Burmese. The only ones that are being sold in my area are dwindling off quickly.

I will have a Burm again one day.
