food to big for bp. please help.
So i had to take off for a couple days and left the feeding to my wife. She got a mouse to big and now my bp is having problems passing mouse out through vent. What can i do to help pass utter or should i take ti a herp vet?
Re: food to big for bp. please help.
Well, number one, most people will tell you that you have to ask about going to a vet, then conventional wisdom says you should.
That being said, beware of vets who know nothing about herpetology. They will waste your money, time, and most likely give you incorrect information that could be harmful.
So, if you do go to a vet, make sure they are knowledgeable about reptiles. Any vet isn't the same as the right vet, and I don't care how much flack I get for this, an ignorant vet is worse than not going to the vet.
For a constipated snake, a warm bath can be beneficial. It stimulates the tract and helps getting things going. Don't be too shocked that a bigger meal takes longer to digest. How long has it been since the snake should have pooped (give a guess)? Also, low temperatures make for slower and less efficient digestion.
Also, I was in another thread that talked about this topic. It is important to not give oversize prey. Meals need to be around the width of the snake.

Too big is a going "IN" issue, not a coming out:gj:
First off, when was the last poo passed?
You are probably going to get a stinky shortly.

not going to happen, if the meal was too large your snake would have regurgitated it.
This snake pooped out her meal just fine, and she ate a medium rat at 300g... (for the record she was not supposed to get a medium rat)

Because the meal was large it'll take time for it to be digested. But the end result won't be any larger than another.. there's no danger.

^^^ Right there.
The more common problem seems to be feeding undersized prey. This doesn't stretch the jaw correctly for the snake.
If it went in then it should come out.
May I ask what temp.'s you have the tank/tub set at? And, if you have a hide on both the warm and cool side (When my BP's get 15-17% body weight prey they hang out in the warm hide much more, with 10-12% body weight prey they are mostly on the cool side).
Oh, I've also noticed that larger meals seem to result in longer digestion periods and eventually a massive deuce.
