I don't get how they do it?
This is not meant to be a smart arse comment...how the heck do the people with large collections that keep them in those racks regulate temp, humidity, and all that jazz? I mean as a new Bp owner all stressing out over this stuff and then I see these snakes for example in that video that are kept in a plain rubber tubs...what gives?

Honestly, it is much easier to keep them in racks.

I have an insulated shed outside for all my ball pythons and rodents.
The space heater keeps the room at a constant 80 degrees, the water bowls are perfect for humidity (which others use humidifiers).
A couple of proportional thermostats control the heat for the hot spots.
The racks and tubs make cleaning much easier than a tank or cage.

Sounds like a lot, but it is quite easy :)

We have our first 3 in tanks but then we decided that if we were planning on getting more and possibly breeding someday, we really couldn't have all these bloody tanks all over the place, so our latest went into a tub. It is sooo much easier to keep the humidity in check and to clean! We've decided to switch them all over to tubs (except one) eventually.

The huge breeders, the ones with miles of snake racks, each and every tub usually has a heat source, the entire rack has a thermostat that runs the heat for that rack. In tubs, humidity is actually fairly easy to control. Once you get the first tub and rack set up right, after that it's just kind of "copy and paste" for each new rack. The really high end thermostats can control three or four racks full of tubs, heat tape or heat cable is easy to run once you get the hang of it, and you can heat an entire rack with minimal fuss and little variance. The guys big enough to have dedicated snake buildings actually keep the entire building regulated, and use heat tape only minimally as a hot spot.

I have three rack systems myself. The first one was a PITA. Once we got it right, the other two we did practically in our sleep.

Re: I don't get how they do it?
Ok.... I get it. Now here's my next question ... Why do they do it... Like I enjoy having a snake but I'm not really even sure why. I think I like to watch what he's up to, handle him once in a while....just kinda cool. If you have so many snakes (like 10 or more) snakes iand especially if they are in a tub... Then you can't really enjoy watching them and from what I've been reading a lot of folks just handle occasionally...then what is it that we/they enjoy about having snakes? Again not meant to be snotty...just curious:)

This is a peculiar hobby, in that it's also a collection community. We've all got our eyes peeled for the next big thing, and when you're investing thousands of dollars to keep every snake you own in a good quality of life, not to mention acquiring more and brreding them, you want to do it in the most efficient way possible. If there's a way I can have a room lined with vivariums and manage to heat them all properly, wonderful, and I know there are folks out there that do, but racks are fairly inexpensive and efficient, and a definite tried-and-true method.

TL;DR: Ball pythons become an addiction, you have been warned. Heh.

I enjoy handling my snakes rather then just looking. However the snakes being rather shy creatures don't necessarily enjoy being handled a lot. With the number of snakes that I have, I can handle each one for a few minutes and then move on to the next without overly stressing my animals. Rack systems are just much more efficient for keeping larger numbers of snakes.
