Localities of different retics?

I'm just wondering, does anyone have a guide/comparison of many of the different localities? Emphasis on the SD localities, such as Kalatoa, Kayuadi, Madu, etc. since I will be getting one in a year or two aha. I've read this thread, but it didn't show many pictures. Also does anyone know of a reputable breeder who works with this locales? Thanks!

I don't know anything about SD retics, but you can talk to Simple Man. I believe he deals with them and knows more people that do.

Reptileexperts on these forums is extremely knowledgeable about most things pertaining to Reticulated Pythons, and he would be the first person I'd ask if I were looking into getting one. Good luck!

There are not many "guides" out there just information on known localities. But you need to just buy from a known breeder to get what they say you get. Travis Kubes is the main person in the US that works with the known local dwarfs - he mainly deals with Kalatoa when it comes to the super dwarf locales. Prehistoric pets is slightly shady IMO for some of their "dwarf" products after watching Jays video on "how to keep a reticulated python small . . . " ugh . . .

None the less; Kalatoa are the smallest known of the retics with males getting around 4-5' and females capping off around 6' with 7' being the largest spectrum.

Kaydui is the next to the smallest, but females of this locale have been known to exceed 9-10' in length, and start approaching the more dwarf level like that of Jampea. Madu fall in very similar to this locale type as well, even in coloring.

Honey Island is kind of in the middle with males around 6-7' and females lingering around 8-9'.

The best guide for determining locale are scale counts because breeders can lie about age, or stunt growth by feeding VERY light meals very infrequently basically referred to as "maintainace" mode feeding. There is a guide out there that showcases three types of locales giving head plate comparisons. http://reticulatedpython.info/me/pap...ic%20paper.pdf - this is one of the best sources still, even though its from 2002, but it gives a look at their natural history.

Keep in mind that the super dwarf reticualted pythons were a phrased that was coined by Bob Clark when he imported this small gravid WC female that was no more than 6' long. When it laid eggs, he bred back, and the locale was deemed superdwarf. From best understanding of this, THAT original dwarf was from the island of Kalatoa.

Again, the reminder I MUST put everytime I post something like this - If you get a superdwarf reticulated python. Please note this:

** The only mutation that is found in pure superdwarf form is Anery. All other mutations come from larger growing snake influence and will then be deemed as a % Superdwarf. The highest % of recessive stuff out there right now, including albinos and snows are around 62.5% - 75%, these will stay relatively small, but again will be larger than the 5-6' spectrum, closer to 7-8' realistically. Tiger was originally found in a very large growing locale, any SD with tiger influence will be slightly larger as a general rule **

Guys, I am working hard on a video for this stuff showing different sizes from local crosses for you covering Jampea, Kalatoa, Kaydui, and Seslayar which are all the locales I am currently working with aside from my mainland.

lol, I'm not going for length, but substance. Right now its just me going through with each snake discussion the locale cross and size of what it is, its age, and how it compares. with others. I want to add a clip with my newest little girl, but she's still in QT and I won't be able to mess with her much for a couple more days. Going to feed her tonight, and if it goes well, then I'll use her for a video in a couple days and then add it into what I already have together. I'm more use to being behind the camera than in front, so it's a different vid. Will upload a feeding video tonight to the tube and post it for people to see how feeding retics can go!
