Windows 8, How I hate thee, let me count the ways.
Thought I'd start a Windows 8 vent thread. Anti-Vista posts are invited too.:D

Chrome for Win8 is an app not a program and is not supported in desktop mode so no Snipping Tool use while browsing with Chrome.

That ought to start the ball rolling, I hope.

The new start menu ought to kill itself. It's so user unfriendly. Where are my directories? My computer? Control panel? Get off my lawnv

I like win 8 on my tablet only, with a touchscreen it's super nice. Just swipe the screen to get the start menu or find a different program you had running. Now on a lap top no a million times win 8 sucks for laptops no touch screen everything about it feels half assed an wont properly work.

    I use this.

There are other alternatives - some of them are even free. :)

Then I changed the file associations to avoid anything on the app screen as they crop up.

It makes it almost identical to windows 7 for me in daily use.

After spending a few hours playing with settings, tweaking registries, and all that, I liked the new UI. I cant say it was too unfamiliar (flow wise) since I used to use gnome 3 (linux desktop environment) which one could easily argue Microsoft ripped off many aspects off of gnome 3. I will say it is unfriendly as hell and I can't believe how many places there are to change settings. I mean most things in general are trying to condense things making them a 1 stop shop, windows 8 I had to google where to do just about anything. The learning curve imo is way to great for windows 8 being a supposed top tier OS.

Also wth is with the ugly window decoration now? Aero was sexy, I donno what they were thinking. Also having some things be "apps" and some things be "programs" is ridiculous to me. Also I feel the search is flawed in the metero UI.

I will admit, once I learned it, I like it. I do enjoy the faster boot time also. I had lower resource usage and thus better battery life on the laptop.

However, I no long use windows at all (besides on my laptop just to view sites on different browsers), put the same time you spent screwing around with windows over the years into a linux based OS, you might be much happier :)

I bought a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7. I could have upgraded for free to Windows 8 but didn't.
My wife has a laptop with Vista.
I like XP and think that Windows has gone downhill from there.

At least I can turn off those cursed user account notifications in 7&8 and it be kind of XP like.

You can turn them off in vista too.

And I have to say, on the same hardware, 8 runs quicker than 7 for me.

    Looks uglier mind you.

After using a Mac for the last four years I'd never be able to go back to Windows. I use my friends every now and then and its so frustrating.
