I am happy to report that little Miss Hissy Fits has joined the rat club! Talk about an easy snake to care for! I thawed out her first rat ever this past sunday nite. She had never even seen one before because the crappy store I bought her from fed her mice &, until last sunday, so did i. I don't even hafta do the rat/mouse dance to get attention anymore, i just thaw it, heat lamp it for a minute or two & drop it in the tank. I did this with the rat & walked away after covering her tank. (She is a private eater, like most females i know! LOL) I went back over a minute or two later & bye bye rat!! I waited until today to make sure she didn't regurge or anything like that. All is well!! So, everyone congratulate Hissy Fits on joining the rat club! YAY! :D

    Congrats!
Ozzy joined the rat club also on Sunday.
That is so good and I know your relieved much like I was :)
Ozzy just stared for a moment like " damn that is a big mouse" and then nailed it.
That's so cool you got her over to rats with no problem.

Hooray for hissy! Monty just switched to rats about 3 weeks ago. I just wish my bp would go for f/t. Allways refuses the frozen ones. But the fresh killed he takes them now.

Hrrm... at about what size (length, weight) is a good time to make the switch? What size are Hissy, Ozzy, and Monty?

An adult mouse is still a good sized meal for Ippo right now, so I thought I would let him grow a bit more before I made the switch. I really don't know much about rats at all: what size they are when they're weaned, what size they are when their bones are fully developed, etc...

hhw....I dont know the answers to your questions...Jeanne probably does, she is the resident rat person. :D

Monty joe is approximately 42 inches long. I had been feeding him multiple adult mice because that is all he ever ate before I got him and he is a finiky eater, well, at lest he was. I am still unable to get him to eat f/t but the f/k thing is working. Plus, i have allways had rat's for pets since the 60's, so it was hard to feed him a rat but finally got over that and did what was needed for Montys best interests.

    Should be getting
I;d say that when your BP is eating large mice, it's ready to make the transition to rat fuzzies. They're roughly the size of an adult mouse, maybe a bit smaller.
