temperatures

i seem to be having a bit of trouble getting the temps correct.

on the cool side the temp is 79* and on the warm side the temp is 83*. the humidity is at 70%. the setup is a 90qt sterilite with a human heating pad. right now i have the heating pad set on 'high' and the temperatures don't seem to be rising what-so-ever.

the warm side is supposed to be in the 90's, eh? if so, is there anything i can do to make it warmer w/o buying an extra heat source?

How much space is there between the heating pad and the bottom of the enclosure?

I know some people have bought heating pads that were wired backwards. The low is hotter, and the high is cooler. You might want to check that. Putting it on high should be more than enough heat.

there's JUST enough space in between the heating pad and the bottom of the enclosure for air circulation etc - i couldn't tell you exactly. i'll check the 'low' setting to see if it is warmer.

if you have a human heating pad on high and it isnt pumping enough heat, take it back cuz' she be broke.

What kind of substrate are you using and how thick is it?

right now, i don't have any substrate down. will that effect the temps? i was planning on using astroturf or newspaper. all i have in the sterilite right now is the hides and water dish.

i just checked the temps again and they are 82.5* on the cool side, 85.8* on the warm side and humidity at 75%. that's with the setting on 'medium'. oh, and is 75% for humidity too high?

anyways, i'm going to fumble around with the temps for a few more days, and if they don't seem to be coming around, i'll take the heating pad back.

Substrate will affect your temperature readings. The thicker the substrate, the greater the difference. Try putting down your substrate and putting the heating pad on "high." 75% humidity is a bit high for a BP. Generally, you want to keep it around 50-60% unless the snake is getting ready to shed - then higher humidity is preferable.
