Eastern Kingsnake Weight and Feeding
So I was given an Eastern Kingsnake and a Ball Python from a nature center. Both with their own set of problems... The Ball Python is a complete mess but he is slowly but surely getting sorted out. Lots of vet work... The kingsnake had high levels of salmonella. I gave him antibiotics and that problem is now taken care of. He eats like a little pig, sheds regularly, and is very active and wonderful. He always seems hungry though! He's been dewormed. He and the ball python have no contact with each other. I was just curious as to what was a good weight for an eastern king who is about 5 feet long? I don't want to underfeed or over feed. I started out feeding 4 large mice every two weeks, but now I'm thinking that's too many at a time and would be better for a rat pup/small rat or two every week? Any advice? I'm just trying to learn and do what's best for them.
Eastern Kingsnake Weight and Feeding
What is his weight at now?
I took in a BP that was a 1/3 of where she needed to be. Now that she has put on all of the weight she needed, she is always looking for more. I'm not sure if they just feel the need to keep eating because they were under fed or its just their personalty.
I have never worked with Eastern Kings but I do have Cal Kings. I feed my adults 1 rat pup every 7 days and they seem to be doing well. My oldest is now over 20 :)
I would say as long as he looks healthy, not skinny / not obese. He should be fine. Just keep him on a steady diet and get his weight every month for your records.
Good luck!
Re: Eastern Kingsnake Weight and Feeding
Thanks! I'm going to start feeding him every week. I think that sounds better. He looks pretty chunky. I'm not sure of his weight, but I'll go get a scale today and start keeping track. I'll let you know his weight. Thank you again for your help!
