    I thought pastels were yellow?
Can someone give me some advice on this pastel. Where it should be yellow it is white and it has a lot of granitey black speckling. Also, along the neck pattern has bright white patches...is it sick? Is this just a poor quality pastel?
Can others please post pics of pastels who are white instead of yellow?

It looks pastel to me, just browned out. So, it's a low quality pastel. Pet quality, not breeding.

Ok. Thank you. And the white? Does that mean something is wrong/unhealthy?

Is the 1st snake considered a "black back"?

I don't think it's considered blackback because pastels have a whole different pattern.

I think both snakes are average, I've seen pastels browner than that. I'd say a dull average.

Pastels that are het axanthic often look like that. I've never really been sure if the pastel mutation actually enhances the yellow or just uncovers what's already there. I once produced a pastel that had kind of an olive green look to it after breeding a pastel to a particularily dark female.

Yes the first pastel is a blackback pastel. The 2nd one is a banded pastel.

The 1st pastel reminds you of a het axanthic? Does it's belly look like something funky is going on?

The belly looks like a pastel. I'm not saying that yours is one, but I've seen pastels that are het axanthic that looked that color. It could just be a naturally reduced yellow.
