Most people who breed meat rabbits use Californian and New Zealand rabbits. They breed very fast.

yep x 3, California and New Zealand are the two most popular breed - they get fairly large (7-9lb) and are reliable, fast, and quick to grow. I keep bouncing back and forth with the thoughts to breed, but right now I can pay $2 a pound for smaller rabbits and $1 a pound for larger. Rabbit colonies for the amount of retics I have, would cost about 80 a week to keep up with + time, so it would not benefit me too well. . . but many many people do. High rec putting an add out on your local free internet classifieds asking around for "meat rabbits" and see what people say. Many will go as low as $1 /pound.
