I'm having a blast breeding rats. Congrats on the dumbos. Going to hold them back? I'm moving toward producing 100% dumbos myself.

Just sold another 2 as pets the other day. The rats continue to pay for their food and bedding just by selling the nicest ones as pets on Craiglist and Facebook.

I wish the pet rat market in this area was as good as it must be in your area. Almost all of mine are dumbo and I still find myself having to feed off 99%+ of my young ones.

They are so adorable I can't stand it. My local pet store only sells dumbos, and I hate using them as feed. They just look at me with those little adorable faces and I can't do it.

The pet rat market is spardic (?) at best by me. I just threw an add on cl advertising bulk snake food for a couple months. Ended up getting a hit from someone needing 17 rats a week, still working to get my production there close tho. Just a thought on what I do if you wanna sell off more

Its crazy I'll advertise on CL and get a bunch of people calling so I'll breed up then I don't hear from anyone but the regular buyers then someone will call wanting thirty med and fourteen pups and I don't have enough. So I'll breed up then I'll be breeding like crazy and end up with twenty large and a guy calls and buys them all. I made over 100.00 this weekend that will pay for my watering system. I get feed money and spending money works great for me.

Congrats on the dumbos! They are a must! So cute and always popular.

I only advertise my rats as pets. I've had a wait list for specific kinds of babies since last summer.
$10 dumbos and rexes. $15 dumbo rex and double Rex. $5 top eared. The pet people are so into it since I have wanted colors, markings, coat type, and ears. Plus they're cheaper than pet stores and private show breeders.

There is one guy who always asks for a small rat every 2-3 weeks for his snake. I charge him $4. Ripoff, I know. But its still cheaper than what he was paying for food before ($10) so he's happy.

$10 for a feeder D: Was he buying a pet rat to use as food? I thought paying $4.50 for a small rat from my local feeder store was high! Luckily, I found a local breeder who charges me no more than $1.50 a rat.

BTW: those dumbos sure are cute! I always feel bad feeding dumbos because they are adorable!
