Mites...

One of my snakes just got mites, I have bought nixs headlice remover and mixed it in with 4l if water like I was told to do. I don't have Prevent a mite or I would use it. So what I was told to do is remove the water dish for 24 hrs after spraying it, my main question is can I spray it on the snake it self?

Please don't suggest buying prevent a mite cause then ill have to order it I want them gone ASAP. Thanks guys.

Use the search feature. You will find plenty of answers telling you yes and no. I personally would not.

i would say dont use stuff directly on the snake. Baths in clean fresh lukewarm water drown mites on the snake, products can take care of the enclosure and surroundings.

read some threads about the same topic, and relax a bit, its not that urgent. Its urgent if you have 20 of them on your snake, or if you have several snakes/reptiles and roaming mites could carry something from one reptile to the others. They reproduce quickly but you still have days to plan what to do, and if you just clean enclosures and move affected reptiles in a different room you can bring it under control for one or several weeks without using any chemical club. Just dont panic. research, then give us more data, then act when you are confident.

whats the specifics on the husbandry, do you have pictures, what other reptiles do you keep, can you move some to a different room temporarily, etc, and so on.... There are stickies here containing lists of questions you should answer for the experts here to be able to help you. Calm down, research up, clean enclosures, fight the mites 2 days from now with confidence and knowledge.

Do not spray the snake.

Spray the substrate and that is it. Make sure it dries for a few hours before reintroducing the snake.

You can soak the snake in luke warm water (no nix) to drown mites that may be on the snake. Other then that, let the nix take care of it.

I've done much used 1:10 parts Betadine soaks in the past and that seems to work with limited harm to the snake. I don't think the Betadine itself kills the mites but it helps keep them clean from the mite dirt and some other bacteria that may be sticking around. I also cleaned the tub with a combination of diluted bleach and boiling water which seemed to work out well. This was just what I did with stuff that I had around the house and the mites cleared up in about 1-2 weeks and I haven't seen them since.

I would not use nix, pesticides are toxins and should be used exactly with no variation from the instructions and there are no instructions for nix and snakes. PAM should also be used as directed, completely, that means following all the instructions not just the easy ones.

I have only used the old school non toxic methods. They work perfectly well just take some more work, not really an issue. I have had friends use reptile relief and had 100% success.

There was about 10-15 bugs in the encoser and 3 on him. Do in total there was about 10-15, he is housed on paper towel and is in an exo terra terrarium. He is still eating like a champ. I guess ill just give him a soak and clean the terrarium very good. How long should I soak him for to kill the bugs/eggs?

20 min with a few drops of soap (usually dawn) every day . While soaking completely clean the full encosure.
