it hasnt happened to me, but i was wondering if anyones BP ever actually constricted them? whats it feel like?
-
Well I've never had it happen, but they are usally mild mannered creatures.
-
Not much really...they're too tiny.
Now go to a show and hold a baby burm or retic....haha. Then TRY and imagine the adults!!
-
Well contrary to what I always thought, being that snakes constricted prey so they couldn't breath, is actually not 100% true. They actually constrict to the point of circulatory failure, which means that their prey's heart can not pump blood around due to the constricting force the snake puts on them. This kills them faster than simply just reducing the blood's oxygen level to the point of death.
In other words.....I would never want to find out what that feels like.

Ugh, I'd hate to die by constriction.

lol....Well, one time I put one of my biggest females (about 2500 grams) on my bed over some newspaper to feed her (A long time ago; and I soon realized it was a BAD idea, lol...). Anyway, she has the best feeding response I have ever seen, and when she got the first rat down, I figured that was enough, so I went to put my sweater over her face and lift her up back into her cage, and she thought it was a rat (not even smelling it, btw) and lunged out at me, grabbed the sweater out of my hand and constricted it. I know it wasn't ME who got constricted, but man it was close!! LOL...

Amber's feeding response can be very strong sometime too. I believe it to be attributed to the feeding box that I always used, it reeked of mouse stench. The moment I put her in there, she'd know it was time to eat, even striking at the air in between her and I, I suppose she picked up my body heat, smelled mouse, and thats all the convincing she would need to strike.
Jennifer, thats really funny about her constricting the sweater...sounds like you have a great eater on your hands!

ewwwwww, feeding snakes on your bed is nasty. newspaper or no newspaper, still nasty.

Yep; don't really know what I was thinking (I think I did it 'cuz I was out of rubbermaids or something).
