Hatch time/cutting question
So I'm leaving on a trip to the east coast on may 31st and I'm extremely sad because that will be day 53 for my eggs...
I'm leaving them in the capable hands of my best friend and my parents but my question is if I cut on day 52 or 53 how long after will they come out on their own? I have everything set up so I'm not too worried about it but its going to suck missing my first clutch hatching...
Re: Hatch time/cutting question
Just let them pip on their own, thats your best bet. I cut on day 55 and incubate at 89 degrees and mine usually dont come out for 4-6 days after that. If you cut on day 53 and they arent ready yet they could potentially be sitting in their eggs for a week or so afterwards; if you are not there to clean them out and keep an eye on them for that long bacteria will start growing in the open eggs and you will have issues.

They are incubating at 88.
Sounds like a plan =P thanks for the advice guys, I'll be back on June 9th... This is my first time going on a plane and my first time being away from home for so long. (pretty freaked out about the plane..)
I'll just have them keep an eye on things. =)

You can cut on day 52-53 and be perfectly fine. Just make sure you put the egg flap back over and put them back in the incubator. I'd give them 2-3
Days to come out though.

Even with the flap back over them they still build up junk in the albumin of the egg and bacteria starts growing on the veins. If they are incubated at 88 degrees and he cuts on day 52-53 there is still a good chance that things could go wrong with the amount of time before they come out of the egg if they are not maintained and flushed out every couple days. I cut on day 55 and incubate at 89 degress and in the 4-6 days before they come out i have to flush them out several times during that period even with the flap flipped back over. Ya they may be fine but why take the chance if you arent going to be there to keep an eye on them.
Re: Hatch time/cutting question
before you go make sure you don't have an egg that didn't collaspe some. if its fully inflated I would cut only those. and maybe show your friend how to get on here and ask us questions if needed. good luck don
