Bp not a begginer snake?

I've been hearing lately that bps are not a good begginer snake. Is this really true? Because if yes, than, man, I really wanted one.

They are.... Assuming you get a CB baby and can provide proper care. Their personalities are top notch, there isn't a snake in the world that can compare.


I will never regret bp's. They are da bomb. You're prepared, go for it.

Oh, ok, I guess they were talking about impulse buys.

Great beginner snake as long as:

1-you get captive bred
2-make sure it is eating already (ask to see it eat-if already on f/t even better)
3-you get your setup together BEFORE bringing home your BP. It's a good idea to even post a pic of your setup with info (temps, humidity, dimensions, etc) for others to see and give you some advice on.
4-you are patient...don't be in such a hurry to get one before getting the setup just right and be prepared for them to go off feed.
5-do a lot of research

My BP was my first snake and he's the greatest!

They can be a good begginer snake if you are well informed, have the proper settup, and are mature enough to accept the responsibility of owning a snake.

If you do your research you will do great. The other thread headed in the direction it did because the poster was not in anyway mature enough to handle a ball.

Ok, i've done most of the stuff on the list. Except # 2.

I guess it depends on the "beginner". If you're inexperienced but mature and responsible, you'll be fine. This didn't seem to be the case with another "beginner" here.

The answer to that is YES and NO. The reasons are this. Bp's can be aweful picky eaters, do require strict environmental control and so on. A person must ask themselves if they are willing to put the time and effort and dedication into the bp itself. And you must be honest with yourself on if you plan on putting in the dedication and time and effort. Can bp's be good beginner snakes, YES absolutely, for the right person! All this is really up to you. It is not really for anyone but you to decide. My first snakes were king and corn snakes and ribbon snakes and such... I am now 30 years old, have some experience and knowledge- be it not all, and I am still learning... however, I do very much enjoy the time it takes, attention, care and such that my ball pythons require..do I regret getting my bp's- heck no! Do I feel I am in over my head- heck no! Would a bp been good for me as MY first snake- absolutely not, and only cause back then I was really not willing to put in the dedication and time they need..and the expense in the long run. It is all about being honest with yourself about your abilities and what you are willing to do for that animal. Well I was reading the topic; NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BALL PYTHONS or something like that.

It really freaked me out because everone was tlaking about how picky they are and stuff.
