    Raccoon Release! (Pic Heavy)
Alright, some of you may remember me posting pics of the raccoon kits we were rehabbing. The smaller of the two, Randy, didn't make weight by release time in fall so they spent the winter here with us to make sure they had enough food. Today, the weather was gorgeous and we shouldn't have anymore snow (YAY!!!!!!) so we took them out to the release site. They came out of the the cages just fine, found the den we've gotten them accustomed to, and started being raccoons. They are both fully wild now so we haven't been able to actually touch them for some time which is a good thing. They are out away from major roads and in an area with plenty of food and a spring fed pond/creek. It was a good feeling seeing them be at home in the wild. Here are a few pics of their release. Enjoy!

Randy and her partially naked rump. She had some mats develop and I came in to her half naked one morning. She'd decided that her version of grooming was just to pull them out...

As cute as they are as babies, it's always more satisfying seeing them scamper off into the wild and knowing they will be able to live as nature intended.
