Just unfortunate timing?

I am very new to ball pythons so you may have to bare with me. The other night I was holding my BP (about 350 grams) and while I was holding her and watching a movie... all of a sudden SPLOOSH!

There was no trinkle, no dribble, no warning... just SKADOOSH... pee everywhere. (And some urates for good measure)

My husband and I both looked at her in my hand, not quite sure what had just happened, when all of a sudden it was quite clear that she had more in her to push out. Luckily I saw what was happening (or had it pointed out to me) and managed to hold her over the garbage bin before she pushed out three big poops. My husband proceded to head for the bathroom (gagging), while I laughed hysterically! But then I thought that perhaps this wasn't normal, after all we are rather new to ball pythons, and I wanted to be sure.

So after that long winded story, my question is whether it is normal for a ball python to evacuate it's waste so quickly?

Perfectly normal.. You just don't know what sausage butt looks like yet.. Lol!! Never handle a snake with sausage butt. You'll eventually be able to tell if they have to go by how fat the last 1/4 of its body is up to the vent. When you see this don't handle until it goes. Or give it a quick soak in tepid water and it will go. I have a large aquarium fish net on hand if I put one in the tub in a bit of water to scoop out the mess if it goes. Then a spray bottle of disinfectant cleaner for the tub afterwards.

It may have come out so fast because your snake is new. Possibly a bit unnerved by being handled so it forced it out quickly.

Sausage butt... oh that's awesome! And yes, when they go you have little or no advance warning. We have an adult male who lifts his tail a bit, at that point you have about five seconds to prepare. The juveniles don't even do that much.

My BP didn't do it on anyone, but there was a time when we put her on my bed, turned away for a second to close the tank top and hear my boyfriend go "WOOOAH!"

I turned around and she had peed EVERYWHERE. Like, I was confused at first because I thought there was no way all that liquid came out of such a tiny body. lol

lol yeah when i had my male normal he always loved to go on my boyfriend everytime he held him, but not me :D hehe

Magnus is usually due for a good squat about 5 days after his meal. He's like clockwork at this point, heh. He's gone once in my sink during a quick pre-shed soak, and I could tell he was going to because he just froze, stopped moving entirely. Then WOOOOOSH. Hahah.

Yeah it was quite the surprise! I guess I will have to keep an eye out for sausage butt from now on. :rofl:
