How big a cage/How big a perch??

I'm interested knowing what the best size of cage and perch would be for an adult Biak GTP that's about 5 feet long?

Many of us here have cages from here for our gtp. I love mine. I went with the 24/20 cage. It is 24 tall, 24 wide, and 20 deep. I choose it because it was preassembled, sealed, and the shipping was not terrible. It was really plug and play. My aru is about 4.5 feet and it suits him just fine he has plenty of room. You can also gets perches included. They are pvc and easily adjusted and removed for cleaning. I added a vine and another vine perch for extra climbing fun. He climbs around every night when he isn't digesting. He is fun to watch.

Usually it is recommended to have 2*2*2 cage for an adult but other here have the longer but shorter cages and say they really enjoy them. I'm sure they will chime in.

Yep 24 cube is a good size for an adult female. We like to offer different sized perches for our chondros, you would be surprised how many choose the small perches :) a 1" perch is fine for an adult but you can put another in a little smaller or a little larger and she will tell you which one she prefers.

I have purchased both enclosuers from PVCcages.com and Dragons4you.com and both are great. I prefer dragons4you as they come full assembled with plexi doors and removable perches. PVCcages you need to assemble yourself and they come with real glass doors and perches are additional. In either case you will need to purchase and install an RHP (radiant heat panel), PVCcages stocks them so you can order at the same time, or else you can order form proproducts.com or reptile basics.

I don't think the length of the cage matters as much as the height, you don't really want anything shorter than 24" for an adult female. you can get away with 20" (maybe an inch or 2 less) for a male. but most adults get larger than males you want her to have some room. best of luck!

I'm emailing Dragons4You for a price quote on a 24X24X32long enclosure with heat pannel, perches, light, shipping etc. 2 feet just doesn't seem long enough for a snake as long as mine. I'm also thinking ahead.... Can you make a suggestion on a cage if I decide to get a mate for Puffers? Can I kill 2 birds with one stone here? I'm assuming I'll need a bigger cage to breed in or have a brood box in.

FYI, www.pvccages.com does in fact sell his cages preassembled if you so wish. And you can get them complete with heat, removable doors, and removable perches too. I got mine from Jim at pvccages and the workmanship is excellent. I'd buy from him again in a heartbeat.

I also have a large adult male at about 5ft and I have a 3x2x2 cage for him. I would not go smaller. He uses most every inch of his cage and enjoys stretching out in it. A 2x2x2 cube is what I consider the minimum. If you plan to breed, I would use the 3x2x2 as a minimum for the female. There should be enough room for a laybox and you can introduce the male temporarily in order to service the female. :gj:

We work with the top breeders in the nation....they breed in 24" cubes. Our females stay in 24" cubes. They really do not need any larger as it makes it very difficult to regulate temperature for breeding. If you want a nice display then you can go larger, but for breeding larger is not always better. In fact most males are housed in tubs or cubes no larger than 20x20.

Obviously you will not be housing them together until you put the male in for breeding.....so if you want to get an enclosure for a male, you can get whatever size you want, but again, 24cube is the largest i would get for a male. Esp if you want to breed.....JMO we do it all the time.

You can get any of the PVCcages assembled before delivery, it just cost extra. Going with the 24/20 like I did it was included and worked out to be a good bit cheaper.

I ordered the rhp, light, and perches. When I say it was plug and play it really was. Their was no additional cost to install the light or rhp.

My Aru male is between 4 and 5 feet and you can see how much room he has, he is coiled on the top perch on the left. I think he makes very good use of it and I don't think I would ever need to go larger. I do like the look of a wider cage but feel the 24/20 is very well suited for any gtp.

When did you order that? We ordered a couple last year and he didn't offer that so maybe he no longer does? I dunno. Regardless the only thing you will need to purchase separately is a good thermostat. If you want to breed bigger is not better....makes it very difficult to control temps when you have a large enclosure. Like KMG said 24" is plenty of room. They are chondros....they stay in one spot the majority of the time. Males will cruise at night but females stay put. They do not need a huge enclosure.....similar to the misconceptions people think ball pythons need large tubs. Not such the case.

I upgraded to it within the last year. Under the "24" Wide Cage" section it is listed last as the 24/20. It was delivered very well packed and very well made. It is very sturdy. I also got it really fast. Seems like under two weeks from the date of order. I have been very happy with it.

Oh then maybe he started doing that in the last year because people were complaining. I know a lot of people wouldn't buy from him because they didn't want to have to assemble. That's one reason I started buying from dragons4you....it came fully assembled, sealed, etc. So that's good to know! :gj:
