recess for heat tape in pvc sheet?
I was wondering what the best way to put the recess in pvc for the belly heat on the rack I am going to build

Heat tape is so thin that I really wouldn't bother unless you have a router (manual or computer controlled).

You can either use a router, OR laminate a very thin layer of PVC create the indention.

I have used a belt sander as well. It only takes a little bit.

I have a rack without the heat tape recessed and one that is. They work pretty much the same.

I have a router, and I chose not to even bother recessing the heat tape to the shelf because it would have been a hassle to get it all clean and straight. The tubs slide just fine right over it. Although I've heard that maybe overtime the clear coating on the heat tape will start to wear off but so far so good.

This is what I am worried about how do you anchor the heat tape without the recess

2"-4" foil tape is the preferred method from what I've seen. The stuff is super sticky and when mounted like this usually does a good job with minimal wear and tear.
