I ripped the skin off my rat! D:
Today when I went to fetch Dovah his lunch, the foreheads of my rats were frozen together and I had to pull them apart without thawing the other one, in the process the skin ripped off of the rat and it made me feel noxious, it was nasty! Thank god it wasn't bloody, it didn't bleed at all.
Dovah sure did like it! I've been having to really scent up his rats to the point where I can smell the mouse on them for him to take them(having pet mice makes scenting so much easier!). He took this one with barely any scenting ^^
I'm hoping this mishap will make the rat feeding much easier from now on!

You can still rip the skin off to the bone on a live rat's tail too. Especially if you don't hold them right.

Oh yeah. I once had a feeder slip out of my hands and I caught him on the tail and unintentionally degloved him. It was pretty terrible, snake didn't mind luckily, and a friend of mine did it too when I was helping her get her own BP to eat. x(
Have to say though, I see people handling live feeders incredibly rough quite a bit actually. I'm not a fan of rats myself but god, they deserve as much care and respect as you would give to one of your snakes.

I handle my feeders well! I know about the degloving tail tip..sounds horrible.
The vivarum does actually breed for tameness, all their rats will tolerate me scruffing them and are fairly casual when in the snake tub.

Are you talking about the East Bay Vivarium because if so, I would respectfully disagree. I get live feeders from them in bulk about every month and about 50% of their rats are always the most ill behaved I've ever dealt with. I have about four bites from the last batch I got even. S:
I just don't know what's been up with them this year, they've been great in the past but recently they've just given me so many things to complain about.

I have to agree with this. I breed my own feeders but occasionally go to EBV during production dry spells. Maybe its just bad luck or coincidence, but I haven't come across one rat that was socialized or tame.
I always joked around that some of them were borderline feral from how mean some of them were.
