    What is this? Abscess?
Haven't handled my girl for about 3 days or so. This morning I noticed this. Sorry about the bad pictures, I was about to leave for work so I could only snap cell phone pictures. I can get better ones after work if needed.
Should I go ahead and make an appointment at the vet?
Oh don't mind her blind eye, she has had that since she was a baby

My retic and a ball had some face swelling similar to that (only theirs was at the front of their mouth from pushing on their tub walls) and antibiotics, swabs, and warm compresses brought the swelling down. I'd be safe and bring her into the vet in case it is an abscess or infection before it gets worse, it looks like you caught whatever it is early.

Yeah I searched threads and I noticed a lot of them were on the front and had most likely been from rubbing. But since hers is on the side I feel concerned. I would have to check my feeding dates, but I'm pretty sure she was last fed 8 days ago (she eats large rats). I haven't opened her mouth to take a look yet, but from what I can see from the outside the tissue is a nice healthy pink. Which makes me think it's some type of abscess that's causing the swelling

Made an appointment for tomorrow at 7:40am.
Anyone know of the price range of treating something like this? I can't seem to find an estimate.
Lot of big pricey things going on right now in my life, I hope the treatment is inexpensive. I mean I'll do whatever needs done either way, but I like to feel a little prepared.

    It was an abscess!
Got it scooped out this morning. Zira (the snake) behaved very well considering. The vet topically numbed the area. During the process she only hissed once. She was coiling pretty good but it actually wasn't hard to hold her. And she was perfectly fine afterwards. Such a sweet personality. She weighs 6 1/3 lbs.
I was proscribed neo-poly bacitracin opthalmic ointment, and I need to fill the abscess hole with it 3-4 times a day for 2-3 weeks.
I caught the abscess early, the pus hadn't even solidified yet (well very small chunks) and was 90% liquid.
I wish I had gotten pictures of the procedure but that wasn't possible since I had been holding her the whole time.

Great job getting her taken care of by a vet right away! Best of luck with your treatment and a speedy recovery. :)
