    Help please, sudden hognose death!
I fed my snakes last night and today my hognose was fine and pissy as usual. She regurged her rat which she has never done and a few hours later she had passed. This was my baby and I am beside myself. I want to get her to vet for an necropsy asap. What do I do with the body? Freeze or refrigerate? How much does a necropsy cost? I am so freaked out, as she was a healthy, active snake. She has never regurged in her life. There was a bit of blood on her aspen. She aye a rat fuzzy, but she had it bent kind of in half, which she does a lot. Could intestines have ruptured or twisted? Temps are good 87-90 hot spot, 77 ambient. I'm going through a million "should haves" right now.

Refrigerate! Do not freeze. No idea on cost. Sorry for your loss. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

As for the necropsy, I *believe* refrigeration is the best way to keep it intact, if I remember correctly freezing destroys the cells needed for it. (Or maybe it was another reason why it wasn't suggested)

Sorry I can't be of more help.

The costs will probably vary by vet, but hopefully someone with more experience in this area than I can/will chime in for you. Again, I am so very sorry for the loss of your hoggie :tears:

Thank you so much. I've left a message for the reptile vet in McKinney. They don't open till 8 am but I have work tomorrow all day. But I am sure that she can't stay in the fridge very long. Maybe I can go into work late and take her in the morning. I will have to play it by ear.
