Ringers - definition and significance?

Hi all you morphological potentates. Can someone explain to me the definition and signicance of "ringers"?

LOL....I'm not a potentate of anything, but I'll give this a shot...

A bp is called a "ringer" when some of the white from its belly "bleeds" up into the otherwise normal pattern on the sides. In very rare instances, it may make a complete "ring" around the body of the snake. I guess that's where the term "ringer" came from, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure what the significance of it is. Some people have hoped that it might be connected to the pied gene, but there's no evidence of that...nor is there any evidence that it is predictably genetic. I personally don't get excited about them...I think they are just normals with a slightly aberrant pattern.

Thanks Judy. I thought there was some urban myth about pied genes w/ ringers, but I wanted to hear from someone wlse about it.

Many places state that the ringer is not a proven genetic trait. What bothers me is that some people sell normals and try to pass it off as some morph for example http://www.prehistoricpets.com/viewi...ckbld&n1=2-062

These people want 225.00 for this normal yes its a nice normal but give me a break.

I guess if you were to buy a morph it would be better to get it from a reputable dealer.
Look at some of the other "morphs" they are selling. Looks to me like they are trying to make a quick buck.

$225 for a normal it better be symmetrical, lacking the "alien eyes" or hell anything significant! That's a very unremarkable BP in that regard heh.

I agree that it seems silly to ask for that much money for a perfectly normal bp. However, any breeder has the right to ask whatever they want. I would bet that most (if not all) of us here at bp.net know better than to pay what seems an unfair price...so we don't have to worry about being "suckered" into such a purchase. And if some newbie thinks he's gonna get rich by getting such a steal on the next great morph...well...serves him right for not educating himself before making a purchase and/or being greedy. And then there is the person who just falls in love with that particular ball...knows exactly what it's worth, and is happy to spend $225 for it just because they like it so much.

In any of these cases...the price that person is asking does no harm at all....so it really doesn't bother me one little bit.
