Well...he finally ate.

I broke down and got a gerbil for Atreyu. He nailed it immediatly.

Hopefully that will kick his feeding response back in, and he will go back on rats. If not....I guess I am breeding gerbils.

Atreyu looks pretty satisfied with that meal. How much did u get that gerbil for?

That lil thing didnt put a dent in his appetite! Seven dollars for a baby gerbil.....for a 5 year old python! Stubborn lil s*^t.

When feeding gerbils, you should try to stun them first. They fight back a lot better than rats/mice & can inflict more damage. I don't normally feed gerbils but my neighbor had like 30 to get rid of so I used em up.

I stuned em by putting them in a towel & smacking against a hard floor. Not hard enough to kill, but hard enough that the gerbil didn't know which way was up until it was too late.

Thanks everyone. :) I'm happy he finally ate too. I'm giving serious thought to going ahead and breeding gerbils, though. Seems to be a bit cheaper than buying live rats to kill every week. Especially since Atreyu wont go anywhere NEAR a f/t.

And yes, Kane...I do pre kill or stun all critters before offering them to my snakes. Thanks for the concern. :)
