    Rat room ventilation
I am in the process of building a 16'x24' shed. Half of it will be for my rats and half of it will be for my snakes. Of course it will be separated by a wall and both sides will be insulated.

My question is about ventilation for the rat room. I am wanting to put in some sort of window type fan for my fresh air intake. I also want to put in an exhaust fan of some sort, more than likely one that will go up and out the roof, was thinking the inline ducting fans, but I would love to see how others have their ventilation set up in the rat rooms (pictures with as much detail in writing as you would give.)

Also what brands of fans, both intake and exhaust, that are good.

And what, if anything, you would do differently about your set up. I am wanting this to last a while obviously.

    Thank you for any input.

I just use 2-1/2" PVC for air from the outside (the pipe runs from the outside to a vent near the floor in my rodent room) and is ventilated by a heavy duty exhaust fan in the ceiling. You can get a lot of good ideas and parts from hydroponic sites. One thing I did that turned out to be a really good idea was using a weatherproof steel outside door with a magnetic seal for the room, it really cut down on any odors that would have leaked out from under the door

How do you keep bugs from coming in threw the vents? I have a buddy that at one point bread hamsters, he tried venting the room and ended up getting over run with mites an losing lotta animals. He's right in middle of town on second floor so not sure how they found the critters but when they did they went to town

It's never really been a problem, I get small flys in there a lot, but I also have plenty of spiders to take care of them.

id probably just use the window for a small ac unit.. it will also dehumidify.. run a small carbon scruber n their for the smell, and hook up a 6in or 8in canfan on a timer to do a full exhaust/ air change of the room air a few times a day, you wont need an intake...
