which herpstat?

ive been reading trying to figure this out on my own , but im still confused...what is the lowest level of the herpstat that allows for you to program a night time drop in the temperature and a daytime rise as well? thanks

Other than for breeding purposes, I'm pretty sure bp's don't need a night time temp drop though...

i have the herpstat basic and it has a night drop. it just has a software clock so if you ever have a power outage you just have to reset the clock.

Night drop IMHO is an old way of thinking when a lot of balls were wild caught and picky eaters and such. Never had night drop, never needed it.


To directly answer your question, if the thermostat says either spyder robotics, vivarium electronics, or helix it's a good T-stat. You can't go wrong with any of the big 3. If you put night drop out of your mind, any herpstat will be a great addition to your house.

night drops have a quite useful function although not as intended. If you use an indirect probe placement (probe on heat source) The system is often influenced by ambient temps. The day night cycle can be reversed. The time set 12 hours different exchanging day for night. This allows a 'night drop' to increase temps over night when a typical house ambient temp lowers. and compensate for the lower air temps.

Ok I will buy that. However. You aren't using it to its intended purpose. If the houses ambient temps drop anyways then you will be using "night drop" without the need for it in the thermostat. If you use it to "fix" the natural night drop then isn't that going against all it stands for in the first place? Kinda like driving a hummer exclusively on the pavement. Kinda silly if you ask me.
