Mouse Cannibalism

I bought some feeder mice for my snakes, I had fed all of them except four when I started to get really sick. :puke2:
I ended up going to the hospital and staying for about 38 hours.

I came back to 2 mice and 2 skeletons, I don't think 38 hours without food or water would be enough to make them go nuts and kill each other.
Any ideas of why they died and were eaten?

We had pets once that we thought the cat got a hold of one mouse. Then when we bought the new companion, it also had its face eaten out. So, I think so. Mice are more fickle than rats in my opinion.

38 hours definitely would make them eat each other.

This is exactly why they killed each other. Mice have extremely fast metabolisms, so only a FEW hours without food or water is enough to make them cannibalize. If it had only been one mouse by itself, it probably would've died in that time. They were starving and thirsty. :(

Yep, they do that. That was your bad. Should have dumped some food and had a full bottle for them before you left.. oh well

Absolutely. Hungry and thirsty. Survival of the fittest. Think how you would feel with out food and water for a couple days.

Your mice went straight up Carib in that tank. While Navy's away, the mice will play! ;)

Holy crap I had no idea, I've never left my feeders alone for that long. :x
I know baby mouse need constant hydrating (I'm hand raising one now) but I thought adults were more.. stable.
It was a total accident, I didn't mean to neglect them.
