Do you need to use hides in rack set ups? I hear most people say a rack enclosure is like one big hide so one isn't needed but I also hear people that still use hides in them. So are they needed? Are there certain reptiles that do and others that don't?

You dont have to but I always put atleast one. Some ball pythons feed better when they can feel secure with their body touching all sides of a snug hide.

I would put 1 or 2 in there just to feel extra safe and secure. They look cool in there anyways :D

I feel it might depend on tub size. My 150-250g snakes are in 28qt tubs and thus have hides. When they get larger and they fill in the tub more I may try without hides. My 150g pastel male spends a lot of time out of the hide and feeds instantly every time. Some of my others hide always and dont feed as well. I'm not sure there is a correlation.

I use hides only for my hatchlings and my older snakes that are on the nervous side, having the hides seems to give them a greater sense of security/safety.

Animal dependant have two that do have hides and three than do not. The ones that need a hide (or two) get them the ones that don't, don't.

I have a few young boas in my rack along with my BPs. Interestingly enough, neither of the BPs use their hides and all the boas do!!

I just provide them for everyone. They all seem to appreciate the option. :gj:

I only use hides with small hatchlings and once they start eating regularly I remove them
