    Breeding in a Noisy Room
So I am just now diving into the world of ball python breeding. Unfortunately, I do not have the real estate to dedicate a room to my projects, so I am running this whole operation out of my living room. My living room contains a TV, and often noisy children. I have successfully kept my BPs in this room for almost a year now (I have 2 racks). My question is, will the noise and commotion interfere with their breeding? Has anyone else bred in such conditions? I am on my 2nd 3 day pairing with no witnessed locks yet. I know it's still very early but I am trying to weed out any issues that are within my control. I can put them in my bedroom, but it is very cool down there (60s).

    Regards,

    J

I have and am still doing exactly what you are. Last season we had no issues as a result of noisiness. This season we have two projects going on at the same time and it appears that the noise level again is not complicating anything. I run my cooling using a herpstat with night drop but the our living room doesn't have temperature control at all. Even with all of this we hatched out all 6 eggs last season with no problems. I have some pictures of our setup and location along with last seasons maternally incubated clutch on our Facebook page. They truly are hardy creatures when their basic needs are met.

I have mine in the living room too. I keep a bath towel on top of each cage which can be arranged to cover the front or even the whole cage. Nice for when they seem to want privacy while I'm using the room. Don't forget, they're pretty deaf. Vibration and light will bother them more than noise. And, like they say, they'll breed just about anywhere except your car's glove compartment. :P Good Luck!

No problem. I like the use of racks also. The ones I built are more furniture quality and blend better with the living room furniture. It also helps keep the privacy having them almost completely covered so as to not disturb them.

Just saying, if I'm a horny snake who never gets laid, a little noise ain't gonna stop me. Especially if I'm used to living with it.
