    Questions about selling reptiles
    Hello,

I have a few questions about selling reptiles I have a few ball pythons and bearded dragons that I am going to try to breed next year I wanted to know how to find out if I needed a permit to sell them. I'm not wanting to try to start a side business with this at least not yet but I want to know what all I have to do in order to start legally selling the babies if I end up going through with this. Any advice that I can get would be much appreciated I would rather do things right the first time and not end up getting a big fine.

It really depends entirely on your location. you can find business registration requirements online, as well as dept of agriculture standards for needing a pet dealer license. Check with your local animal control for other regulations.

you can sell stuff you own. you dont need to start a business or file papers if you happen to have a collection of magic: the gathering cards or rare minerals or whatever stuff might be valuable and decide to sell it, or when you do a garage sale, or sell your used car. or when you paint or do art or whatever and every now and then put something on ebay.

many hobbies have a bit of a cashflow in both directions.

if you breed regularly and it gets into the thousands of dollars, then make it a business, make it official. when it turns into regular or significant income for you, it better be official and legal. but if you spend 200 dollars per month, and occassionally, maybe once a year, get 500 dollars in a month from it, then its from the financial point of view still just a hobby.

its more a question for an accounting or tax expert or law expert, it might as well be about the production of stone sculptures in your garage, and the sale of these.

about ball pythons and bearded dragons: as far as i know, so far i havent heared that there would be any laws regulating these in any state. Thats the reptile-related part of your question, you need to know about legislation about the species in question, some giant snakes are banned in some states and/or cannot be moved across state lines, but as far as i know BPs are not affected.

Some big city's don't allow any ball pythons. I know new York CITY has a ban on ball pythons.
