    *sighs* at the Vets...
So I have an adult male boa that just got back from a breeding loan, he had a really weird poo it was beyond diarrhea and has refused 1 meal. I took him in thrusday and the vet said "I don't know" test him for parasites that test was negative. Well today talking to a few friends of mine I got an idea of what it could be and what I need to treat him. So I made another appointment with the same office but a different exotics vet. The receptionist says to me..."well make sure you keep a close eye on him because once they refuse a meal they could go really really quickly, also make sure his body temp doesn't get cold we have an emergency department that's 24 hrs please bring him in immediately if he feels cold"............................................:rage: are you kidding me!! this is why Im not a fan of vets, well a fan of cat/dog vets that have a course in reptiles! ugh!!

Sounds like the receptionist got her training from Animal Planet.

Hearing things like this makes me glad I found a good herp vet. It's an hour drive there but well worth it.

Do you not have any other options for vet care? I think the guy at your local quick lube bay knows more than that receptionist.

    That's what I thought too! :D

In all seriousness, I would make it known to the VET that the receptionist is giving out medical advice. She has no business doing that. I would also point out to the vet that the information she gave was flat out wrong. If the vet doesn't think that's wrong advice, find a new vet.

Sorry you have to deal with this - I know the feeling all too well. I am fortunate to have a good exotics vet now. Only downside is that I have a 45min drive to get to her. But I'll take it because she's GOOD. ;)

it gets worse, so I go in for my 430 appointment. When I made this appointment they were trying to get me in at 230 because it would give them more time to look at him. but 430 worked best for me. So I go in and they say oh Im sorry the herp vet went home earlier today :confusd: annnnnnnd then another vet comes to the waiting room and asks me if they can run a ovum test on him free of office visit charge :O ummmm lady did you hear what you just said...ovum on him

That's because all snakes are asexual, duh. I can't believe you wouldn't know that.

And that downright pisses me off. You made an APPOINTMENT with the reptile vet. If he HAD to leave early (and there are valid reasons for that, so that in itself isn't the problem), they should have called you as soon as possible to inform you. Ridiculous. Find a new vet - and tell your old vet why you're leaving.

And while I rage about the above, I am  my head off - didn't know guys had ovum........... :D
