If it wasn't a BCI or BCC boa what would it be?

I'm just curious as to what most people would pick as their favorite snake to own if they could not have a BCC, BCI or any boa in the western hemisphere.

We bought a Royal python for my son last year for his B-day and I owe it to that snake for getting me into snakes. That said I just didn't get enough BANG from the timid little girl that hides away and refuses food. Don't get me wrong, I/we love her and will do her right the next 20-40 years but I want a little more from my snake experience in size and activity.

I started to research snakes and obviously was drawn to Retics and Burms and some of the bigger Aussie snakes, but those were too much snake for me. The King snake was also a consideration but it fell short because I like the BIG, or sort of big constrictors.

I ended up at Dumeril boas, Carpets, and Bloods and of course the BCI/BCC for the snake species I'd like to own.

I chose the BCI/BCC boa because of the more active, less timid demeanor and incredible feeding response. I like the "semi arboreal" nature of the boas, and honestly, I can't find anybody who owns a boa that wishes they had a different snake.

I guess if I had to pick another snake at this point it would be a larger Carpet.

What would it be for you and why?

If we can't pick a snake in the Western Hemisphere, that rules out Green Tree Pythons which would have been my first pick. But....

If I had to pick a boa, it would be a Dumerils. But there are several very different species I like a LOT: Eastern Indigos, Mussarana, and Angloan Pythons all rank right up as favorites. :gj:


Edit: I just realized that Eastern Indigos and Mussarana are both New World species and native to the Western Hemisphere.... So I guess that my final answer would be both Dumerils and Angolan Pythons! :P

They are sweet hearts for the most part and second to none in morphs. I've never been bitten or even had warning posture from ours. I do love our little Royal.

Thanks for the answer as I think BPs/Royals are probably the best first snake you could ask for. I know some would argue corns, milks or kings, but I really do love our girl.

I know I'll be blown away by the soon to come boa.

Charming and docile personalities.

Womas have great feeding responses. Waiting on IRS refund to get mine.

Hognose - many color phases. Super cute. Not too big. Interesting as display. No need to buy a 4x2x2.

Kingsnakes - see above. Esp. MBK, Durangos, or Cali Kings.

I have a dums and i love her. Super calm. Never misses a meal and she will get decent size in a few years. My next snake will be a bco tho i have a feeling.

LoL!! Be prepared for a LARGE snake with a hugely aggressive feeding response and a huffy attitude.... But they are truly amazing snakes to work with!

Emeralds are from the Western Hemisphere. Green tree pythons are from Australia and Indonesia. So you'd still be in luck if you wanted them and couldn't choose a snake from the western hemisphere for what ever reason. ;)

To the op. if you want a good sized, relatively easy to keep and handle snake than a bci is pretty much the perfect choice. :gj:

Well i love ball pythons because of all the different paint jobs.

I love atbs and gtps but they're from the western hemisphere. Aren't reticulated pythons from the eastern hemisphere? I would pic them, i think they're awesome. I don't have any interest in a full size one but a dwarf or SD would be cool to own! Angolans would probably be up there too. I'd settle for a pair of angolans and a pair of SD retics!

I'm going to say Bredl's python. They are gorgeous, and get decently sized. Bredl's are absolute SWEETHEARTS as adults.
