Male Hogg or Dumerils? Size/Caging

Hello All
I'm planning on adding a new member to the family at the Hamburg show April 27.
After two corns and a BP, I'm looking to add something with a bit more distinguishable attitude, and have really taken a liking to what I've seen and read on the Hogg Islands and Dumerils.
I just got back from Wal-Mart with a Sterilite 38qt (26"x18") tub and an AcuRite, just waiting on the HydroFarm/UTH to come through then I'll be fiddling away with temps/humidity setups.
I know that a baby/juvie of both species can be housed in the sterilite for a bit (especially males), and I do plan on slow growing whichever I end up acquiring, but which (if either) will grow faster? And once they do outgrow the setup I'm preparing, should I bump up to an intermediate tub size or just go all out for their adult enclosure?
Sorry for all the questions, I'd just rather have a large scale 'game plan' before I jump into it.

I'm not sure about Hogg Island Boas, but Dumerils Boas grow really slowly. Either way I would move the snake into a 4' x 2' x 2' or 6' x 2' x 2' cage after he/she outgrows the tub.

Thanks, I've read that about the Dumerils actually.

Also was looking at Tarahumara Island Boas, evidently they stay even smaller than the Hoggs? Love the coloration on them, and like the idea of a 'dwarf' boa (I read that males tend to stay under 4' for most of their lives)

Tarahumara's are fantastic. Females may get to 44 inches, males are smaller then that.

If fed correctly (ie, not overfed), both will grow slowly. Both should do fine in a 38qt tub if you start with a baby. Both my baby Dum and baby Colombian are in 38qt tubs right now, too, and they are doing great. You'll want a 4x2x1 as a bare minimum for an adult though. A 4x2x2 or larger is even better. Boas will use every inch you give them so you can't go too big (the one exception is that Dums really won't climb. Colombians and Hogs will. So you can get away with a lower, more terrestrial cage for a Dum while you'd want to give a bit of height for a Hog - at least go 2' tall for a Hog).

Personally, I adore the temperament of the Dumerils. As much as I love my Colombians, I highly recommend a Dum as a first boa. They are wonderful snakes and very underrated. They are beautiful too.

I vote dumerils, I love mine. And yes they grow veryyy slowly.
In 11 months my BP went from 120g, to 1280g! My dumerils in the same time frame though, went from around 120g, and now she's at around 600g. So yeah they grow slowly, but they have awesome patterns, and the coolest temper out of any snake I've handled.

I agree you really cant go wrong with either, I am currently looking for a Hog, and I already have a Dumeril. She is fun and the only time she has tagged me was during feeding. My own fault I smelled like food so I cant blame her ;)

As of right now I'm leaning heavily towards the Tarahumaras, the more I read about them the more appealing they become. Beautiful patterning, keep the BCI attitude, extremely manageable size, and not alot of people have them (I'm no hipster, but it is nice to have something unique once in awhile).
Only problem with them is that due to their relative rarity, finding purebreds is very difficult. The advertisements on kingsnake/fauna seem slightly suspect (incorrect coloration for neonates/juveniles), Rio Bravo Reptiles from Redtailboa.net advertised that he would have some but contacting him is proving to be slightly difficult. I'm not banking on it, but my fingers are crossed that someone will have a couple at the 4/27 Hamburg.

Everyone here knows my vote always goes to the dumerils. Lol I just got 1.1 hog islands last week and can't wait to handle them. I love their looks. I keep my dumerils in ve-175 iris tubs. They work out great for them. Down side is you can only find them around Xmas at Walmart. They advertise them as Xmas tree boxes. They are 20",wide just over 4' long, and 12" tall without the lid or 14 tall with the lid. I'd image the other small locality boas would also do fine in them. I plan on moving my hogs into them when the time arises. Good luck finding the one you want. They all seem like great choices.
