    I haven't been on a while but something happened to one of my girls that shocked and confused me and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. This is a girl but she does have decent sized spurs. Today I found she had a bit of old shed stuck and when i went to remove it the entire spur came off. And without any force, just from touching it it seemed. There is no obvious injury, no blood nothing just the spur gone. The other is firmly still attached.
    Can this happen, is it a worry, will it grow back?

    Hi,

    Nothing to worry about. :)

    What we think of as the spur is usually just stuck shed on the real spur ( which is tiny and white).

    Oh and some of my girls have large spurs too;

    The actual entire spur came off, there is just a little indent where it was. The other spur looked the same and is firmly attached, no shed buildup on it. They both look like dry tiny cat claws.
    I'll take a pic later.

    She'll be fine. The stuck shed around the spur likely cut of the circulation to the area around the base of the spur and it just fell off or that's what I'd guess). It won't hurt her. As long as there is no visible injury, I'd leave her be.

    Lol I recently had a similar thing happen with a male during breeding and it scared me pretty good, I was reassured that it was fine. It's one of those things you just don't read about generally unless it happens.
