I would suggest a mexican red knee, B. smithi. They make great first Ts, pretty and fairly docile, and a bite is nothing worse then a bee sting.
Don't handle and you won't have to worry about getting bit. They are not a "touch me" pet. It dangerous for the T, they die very easily if they fall, and it's stressful for them. There is always a risk of them dyeing from a fall, no matter how big they are. I've had Ts for years and I've never been bitten. Use common sense and it will be fine. Just make sure it's not an aggressive spider species (stay away from pokies, baboons, ect). Rosies and red knees are both great beginner Ts.
Definitely a No-Touch Pet, some people do and that's their choice as long as the T stays happy and healthy. Pinky Toes are also a good choice I have heard, but I love my Rose!
