Hmmm..mine usually likes it on the hot side after she eats. Other wise likes to lay around the cool end of things. Have you checked the temps on the hot end?

Everyone hasn't stated the obvious. Maybe he just likes it there. Just like people snakes have preferances some like to soak some don't most hide some don't. Consider yourself lucky that your BP feels comfortable out in the open like that. That is a good sign of good husbandry.

Maybe Rex is just enjoying a little steam bath? However, you might want to consider moving your water bowl to the cool side so his water isn't too warm to drink. That is unless you are trying to raise the humidity in the cage? Then you could mist the sides down or put a water bowl on either end.

    Best wishes!

Mine does that sometimes. In fact sometimes he'll rub his nose on the edge of the water dish. Sometimes he just sits there like you said. Kinda weird, but nothing to worry about!

Some of ours will hang out near the water bowl after a large meal - sometimes propped up on it - drinking at their leisure, like an apertif.

Amber drinks water after she eats EVERY single time. I guess since snakes don't have saliva, its gotta get kinda dry in their throat after a furry mouse goes through there. But then again I know next to nothing about snake anatomy, so thats all speculation....
