    Feeding time.....?
    Hey herp family,

Happy pre-spring to you all......the question on the block today is about feeding during breeding. Is it a good idea to change your snakes eating habits at anytime during the breeding season? I here some breeders say it's a good idea to give smaller meals and feed twice maybe three time a month. The reason for this, I heard, was to prevent the female from getting to fat and causing slugs in the clutch. I feed my snakes every seven days without force, an appropriate size meal,(my 3+yr olds a medium to a large size rat, down to my 5 month olds, mice the size of my pinkyfinger). If they decide at any time to stop feeding I'm not worried. My male spider, for example, hasn't eaten since 10/5/12 (don't worry...lol...he's not breeding this season), but he's still nice and round with no sag in his skin.

So the question again is, should I continue my once a week feedings and let them decide if they want to eat or should I modify feeding for my breeders? If so to what degree?

I thank everyone in advance for all of your help, I'm only as knowledgeable as I am about my passion because of all of you!

What I do is I leave my snakes with each other for 4 days then separate for 7 days. The first 2 days after I separate them (so the 3rd day) I attempt to feed them if they take it great. Then the day before I pair them up again (the 6th day after the pair was separated) I try and feed a smaller meal to any of the snakes that did not eat.

Thats how I do it and I have no problems at all

Good luck to ya Hope this helped.
