My snake lifted her anal plate and i saw what seemed to indicate she was a girl. Help

so i just got a new BP and i was transfering her to the box to the tank and i saw her female parts im pretty sure. I have seen pictures comparing male vs female. Is this possible without being probed?

Yes, there is a process called "popping" where you gently push forward the bottom part near the tail to pop their genitals out from under the anal plate. However, you could injure your snake if you don't know what you're doing, so it's best to let a vet do it. Other ways to sex your snake are to look at identifying characteristics: males have longer anal spurs, and tend to be shorter, more slender, and have smaller heads than females.

x2 - I actually picked up a 'female' who ended up being a male, because 'Sheba'/'Slim Shady' showed characteristics of being a girl... :) Only way to tell for sure is the reproductive organs

Well i didnt try and purposely try and do it I just saw it lift up and stick out, and there were no spurs. Although unreliable.. her head is pretty big though. She/ or he? ;) is my first BP though so my perception of "big could be off"

Oh, sorry, yes I understood that (that you didn't try to pop it... it just kind of happened on its own...) I'm going to say that I think that was his/her rectum or 'toilet parts'... I was handling/inspecting a squirrely BP that was trying like mad to slither away and she made that stick out, then subsequently tinkled all over the floor.....

LOL it was the best way i could try and put into words what happened with only a few words

Oh, and the spurs on her would be teeny tiny, and they don't stick out like that... look on either side of her 'anal plate' and you may see one little tiny 'claw' on either side... those are her spurs, or vestigial legs. :)
