Hide in hot side or cool side?
Should my ball pythons hide, where he spends most of the time, be in the hotter side of the cage or the cooler side of the cage?

It has been said many times, a hiding ball python is a happy ball python. Mine hides in both warm & cold hides, regularly.

You should have 2 identical hides in your BP's cage. One on the hot side, and one on the cool side.

OK! My main issue is room in his cage atm, its fairly small and so is he, so ill try to rearrange things better.

The ideal set up is having them on both sides. If that's not a possibility I put mine on the hot side.

Make sure to use little hides for a little snake. Something they can fit snugly. That will save space and make him feel safer.

2, one on each side. A snake wants to feel secure rather then warm/cool. The snake can freeze itself to sickness or cause burns on itself.

If you are having trouble with room in his cage then try to put the hides under the substrate (wish I had a picture of how I do it!). I bury whatever hide my snakes have in their enclosures into the substrate so that floor space hasn't gone, it's just been raised a little. Both of my BP's hides are hidden from view (minus entrance); plenty of room for water dish, decor, etc etc. If you have to use something hard like an up-turned litter box with a hole in it, cover it with whatever, then put the water dish on top of it, Two Things In One!

I only use one hide now that all of my snakes are pretty much "adults." I put it in the middle of the tub and they move it wherever they want it. They all eat and are fat and happy so I guess it's working.
