How long can you keep frozen rats in the freezer?

I toss the rats after the first denial but I was just wondering if there is a max time you can keep the rats in the freezer after you buy them. Do they get frostbite and go bad like some foods do if you keep them in the freezer for too long? I'm curious about this because after I thaw the rats out for feedings, they smell absolutely terrible, just wondering if that is due to being kept in the freezer too long or if its just because dead rats smell like hell lol.

When you warm them back up, the juices start "flowing" again. Any poo left in them is obviously going to smell rank.

I'm not sure how long though, and to be honest I've refrozen the rats that were refused.

I would say that a dead, hot rat just stinks! I don't think that even an old, frost bitten rat would smell any different.

6 months is the longest you should keep anything frozen, including things you eat yourself. I wouldn't feed anything frozen longer then that, and I would NEVER refreeze, that can make a human or a snake sick. If you buy in bulk they are not that expensive, I'd rather take the loss then risk it. If it looks really frostbitten I wouldn't feed it, no matter how long I've had it.

I have no experience feeding rats yet (my little BP is still on mice), but the mice usually don't smell too bad. Could be that rats smell worse then mice, but I don't know.
