Mucus + Shed

i got my BP about 3 weeks ago and she has been a gem. my son loves her. three days ago she started to yawn (thought it was her realigning her jaw) every couple of mins. when i looked in her mouth there wasn't anything in there. today my wife changed her water and everything was ok. tonight i went to feed her an there was thick mucus in her mouth. it came off on my hand like the old school paste (i know you ate it too) but it is still clear. i do not think it is mouth rot. i also have wheezing at the head not the lungs. i checked it with a stethoscope. and a little bubbling from her mouth. lady hiss is in a sterlite container with holes drilled in it and a heat mat on the bottom. hot side is 88-90 with an on/off thermometer. cool side sits at 78-80. humidity holds around 40-50. on top of all of this she is about to start a shed. her belly is a little pink and eyes are that bluish color. what is messed up is that i've been leaving for work at 5 and not getting home till after 1800. i need to get to the vet but i do not have the time till i finish this job. i work weekends too. what can i do for her till my job is done next week? do i raise the humidity for the shed or lower it for the RI

Waiting til next week is a bit dangerous. RI is very treatable but it needs to be treated. The longer you wait the worse it gets and the harder it will be to get rid of. It can result in death if not treated or treated soon enough.

It could be a RI or beginning of mouth rot. If he's about to shed that's not good. That's when the infection usually spreads and gets worse. Really need to get him to the vet. They should give you injections of antibiotics and if you can get him started before the shed that would be good. Also bump up the temp a few degrees and slightly on the humidity. Good luck!

I'm in a special situation where calling in sick isn't something I can do. I will have to turn over my entire job to somebody else and hope they dont mess it up then. I'm going to tak her in tomorrow after my guys gets rolling.

Couple of questions spring to mind before you rush off to the vet.

What were you doing to her that you ended up getting mucus on your hands during feeding?

I would try and up your temps by about 2-4f on both ends. Also now would be a good time to increase the humidity to make sure she has a good shed. Aim for between 60-70% if you can.

Shedding can cause them to make noises while breathing so there are a few more things to look at before asuming it is an R.I.

Are there any signs of mucus smeared on cage furniture or in her waterbowl?

Does she sit with her head raised and her mouth open a lot?

I've been working too much but I didn't see her start gazing until today.
I don't feed her in the same enclosure. It was the only stipulation my wife have me to be able to get her. I was moving her to the other enclosure. There wasn't any mucus smeared on the walls.
I went to the vet today and he pulled two cotton swabs work of mucus out of her mouth. We started her on oral meds bumped up the temps and I'm adding two humid hides tomorrow. I think she will be ok.

Update. Lady Hiss has completed her shed (in two pieces but completed). She is on her meds and getting better. I'm happier that l than my wife and I haven't seen my son for the last two days, but that of what it means to be in the military.
