My snake cant make up his mind?

Okay so I have a abnormal question....

Ive had my snake, Coors, for 2 and a half years now... and never has he done something like this.
His tempurature has always been set at 83 degrees (Hes a none breeder, so it never changes) and for years he has always seemed to love it. But now all of a sudden in the past 2-3 weeks or so, he goes from "sun bathing" to his water dish, back to sun bathing, then back to his water dish. Just back and forth and back and forth. He cant seem to make up his mind and find a happy medium.

Anyone have any ideas on what my lil guy is doin?

Have you checked for mites?

is 83 the hottest part of the cage? If so that really is too cold.

My apologize for not specifying but no 83 is not the hotest part of his cage. His hot spot is set at 91-92 degrees.

And just cause you brought it up I went ahead and checked for mites and there isnt any at all.
But I will ask, out of curiosity, if he did have some, how do you get rid of them? In the 2 1/2 years Ive had him he has never had them so I wouldnt know what to do even if he did.

Well that first thing that you would need to do is order a can of PAM (Provent a Mite NOT the non-stick cooking spray)

The next thing that you should do is remove the substrate that you are currently using, and replace it with white paper towels. There are 2 reasons for this:

1. The white paper towels make spotting the tiny black buggers
2. mites can hide in the most other substrates which will prolong the infestation.

Remove as much as possible from the cage. If you are using things like half log hides (which I don't recommend) They will need to be either baked in the oven or thrown away (personally I would just toss them and pick up some better hides)

You should soak your BP 2 times a day in warm water with a drop or two of Dawn dish soap. This will help to remove the mites from the snake.

Follow the directions on the can of PAM to the letter. This stuff is nasty, in high enough concentrations it will drop a full grown man.

Change the water out frequently as BP's tend to soak to try to get the mites off of them.

I would go ahead and buy a can of PAM at some point. It can take a few days to a week to get shipped and if your snake has mites that can be a long time. Having it on hand just in case is always a good idea.

You might want to try dropping that 83deg to ~80deg. It sounds like he might be trying to cool off in the water dish. Also, do you have good hides in both the hot and cool ends of his enclosure? He might be choosing a hide (or the water bowl as a hide) on one side for security, and then shifting to the other end due to temperature discomfort.
