Pewter Male Refusal To Breed

I have a Pewter male that was an early 2011 hatch. His previous owner fed him mice only until i received him last October. He was at 350 + grams when i got him. I have successfully transitioned him to rats since I received him. He has been a great eater and now weighs in at 550+ grams. He is producing sperm plugs and seems interested when i pair him with my females. But I have not witnessed one lock. He usually is interested in the female for the first day, then he starts avoiding the female. Just because I haven't witnessed a lock, doesnt mean he hasnt. His unwillingness to spend time with the females and he tends to avoid them is what has me confused. Is there any suggestions on how to get him more interested in the females. It isnt just one female that he is avoiding its any of my females that i pair him with. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

I have a pied and an albino who I think are doing "stealth locks". The pied hardly seemed to lock with my pastel last year, and POP! Six fertile eggs this autumn. Okay, then.

But I'm fairly convinced that same pied genuinely doesn't like my black pastel female. When I switched their partners, I immediately saw locks from both pairs. I don't know. These small males are pretty hit or miss with their locks. Everyone says under 1000 grams is better, but it's my big boys who are the real Casanovas.

I have a Butter that I have gotten 3 clutches from over the last 3 seasons. Until this year, I saw him locked up once. This must me his year to shine because every time I put him with a female he locks. I have put him in with my Mojave female for the last 3 years and nothing. He's locked with her 4 times now this season. Just keep pairing, they will get it.

Thanks for the advice :) I will just keep pairing him up. Since this is his first year breeding, I guess i cant really expect too much out of him ;)

It's also my first year, so I'm not sure how helpful I can be other than sharing what worked for me. I had been pairing mine since they went off food in November, but never actually caught them locked (doing 3 days on, 4 days off). So I put another male in with them about 4 weeks ago, on a whim to see what would happen. I watched very closely to make sure the extra male didn't actually "do" anything (he didn't, just roamed around checking the place out) and left him in there for 15 minutes. Apparently Yellow Dude didn't like seeing his lady with another man, because they were locked within 2 hours. Since then he's locked up with her every time I put them together, usually within an hour, and they've been staying locked for 10-18 hours.
