    Sexing
    Hello,

I have owned bearded dragons over the past couple of years and have always been interested in ball pythons. I had done quite alot of research on them and my wife got one for me at pets mart and I also picked up one at a reptile expo. The one from the expo is around 2 months old and the one from pets mart who knows but looks to be about the same length and weigh so im guessing pretty close. Ive seen both popping and probing methods but I dont have probes. How old does the ball python have to be inorder to properly be able to sex them by popping? Thanks in advanced for those who help.

You can pop them at any time, but if you don't know what you are doing you can very easily injure your snake. I would suggest that you find someone in your area that knows how to properly pop a BP, and have him/her teach you.

Some snakes are easier to pop than others. I am better at probing than popping but if I pop a boy, I'm comfortable with that, although I always probe to be sure. If I pop a girl, I'm not so confident, so again I probe to double check. The ones I have popped a boy have always been boys. Some of the ones I've popped girl have turned out to be boys. Get help from someone local, then get good at one or the other.
