Good deal on a pair of het pieds?
I contacted a person who was selling a pair of het pieds with papers, that are almost breeding size. They are asking $300, which sounds like a good deal, but I was just offered a het pied male of that size for $50. I know that females are always much more expensive than the males, but I wanted to know if this was a good deal before I proceed. I am new to the world of BP morphs, and it was the stunning pieds that sucked me in xD

Also, how much would you pay for a breeding size het pied female?

Unproven it would depend largely on paperwork, lineage, markers, and who produced her. I see them for around 300ish.
Proven is a whole other story. I've seen them go from 500 on up, depending on age, size, markers, and what the offspring look like. Also, it depends on how motivated the seller is.

If they are 100% het pieds from a reputable person, then $300 for a near breeding size pair is a VERY good deal. I gave $300 for my pair of 100% het's when they were hatchlings four years ago. I just bred my first visual pied hatchlings this year.

The thing to remember with breeding 2 hets is that there is statistically a 1 in 4 chance per egg of hitting the visual. Out of a clutch of say, 4 eggs you would think that meant you'd get one visual and 3 hets. But, you may get no visuals or all visuals, it just depends.

I was fortunate in that while I was waiting for my het pied female to grow up, I came across a visual pied male I could afford, and he greatly improved my chances of hitting the pied by breeding him to my het female. You can pick up low white pied hatchling males for as low as $300 now.

A near breeding size 100% het pied female, if it was from a reputable person so I was confident it was a het pied, I would consider $200 - $350 reasonable, depending on her exact size, what she looked like, and what her feeding habits were.

I wish you all the best in your search.

i know my het pied are proven (3 pieds) over the 3 clutches she laid ( 1 clutch was slug my fault as I had a poor diet going at the time) but the other 2 clutch s were all great and I have kept the one male for next season to use back to his dame so I can increase the odds, for a higher white female( I hope) I remember paying around 800 for my pair about 7-8 years ago. I also purchased them from 2 different breeders in 2 different states.

$300 is a great deal. I still can't believe people sell proven het females. I have a het girl I wouldn't take $5k for.......but she is over 5000 grams and has great genes. ;)
