Best way to heat a room?
    Hey Everyone,

I need some help. I have a space heater right now heating my room, but my energy bill is THROUGH THE ROOF!!!! I know I've seen some people mention oil filled heaters, but to my understanding, pretty much all plug in heaters drain your energy bill. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good solution to keep the heat up or a more efficient way? I do have all of my walls insulated, also put in a heat duct coming from the furnace to help, but it doesn't always kick on. Anyone have a good idea other than my little super expensive space heater? All thoughts and opinions welcome. :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Calder

I live in northern Minnesota we get cold here and I live in a trailer, I heat my trailer to 76ish and then use heat tape or lights for the hot spots and that an my rats get nothing but house heat. Not sure how hot your trying to keep your room tho that's just what works for me keeps everyone happy they eat less in winter is all I've noticed

Ya I would like to Keep the ambient air temp in the upper 70's, maybe 78-80, and the little space heater does the job, but its not the best. If I were to set the house higher, it would probably be a little more efficient than the space heater. Thanks for the idea.

My heat bill is like 80 before the bump and 105 or so after, I get heating assistance because I'm a college student so it's only help I get. Before I bumbed house heat I used a plug in heater and on the cold cold nights like -30 it couldn't keep up the room would get way cold I still used heat tape then but my normal male is kinda special and I don't know how many time I thought he was frozen because he would stay on cold side so I just upped house temp no more problems an no heater to burn myself on in that small room. Sorry I ramble sometimes haha

I'd be happy to ship you some of the hot air in my bedroom! It's stays 82 with the AC on (yuck!) and I can't seem to get my room COOLER. So. you're welcome to have some of my excess hot air. :P

Any chance you could go on budget billing with your power company? I did that and it spaces the payments equally over a year rather than spiking them in the winter and dropping some in the summer if I don't use the AC as much. As far as a more efficient heating method, I can't help you there, sorry. I have baseboard heaters in my snake room and keep an oil filled heater close to the racks with a fan blowing over it to keep things nice and toasty in there.

How large is the room you're trying to heat? Any chance you could reduce the size of the room or move your animals into a closet or something so the heater isn't working as hard/pulling as much electricity to heat such a large area? Fans might help too, especially if you can get them off the ground to help pull the heated air back from the ceiling and down into the room/floor level.
